A Budget Planner That Makes Money Less Stressful

Budgeting apps are great until you stop opening them. A printable budget planner has one advantage: it's already open, sitting where you'll actually see it.

What's inside

A monthly budget layout, an expense tracker, a savings-goals page, and a debt payoff tracker — undated, so it works whenever you start.

Also included in every planner: a Monthly Calendar (undated 6-week grid) and a Monthly Goals tracker. And the whole PDF is fillable — type straight into it in Acrobat or your PDF reader, or print it blank and fill by hand.

Format

Instant PDF download, A4 and US Letter sizes, 9 style/color combinations.

Who Money Flow is for

Anyone who wants to sort out their money on paper — because budgeting apps stop getting opened after a few weeks, or because writing spending down makes it more real. It works for singles, couples and families, and it's not a substitute for financial or debt advice.

What each page does

PageUse it to
Monthly budgetIncome, fixed costs and planned variable spending.
Expense trackerEvery purchase with date and category.
Savings goalsGoal, target amount and progress — emergency fund, holiday, new laptop.
Debt payoff trackerRemaining balance on each loan or card, and your progress.

Setting up your first month

  1. Look at two or three months of bank statements and copy your fixed costs into the monthly budget.
  2. Choose variable categories (groceries, transport, fun…) and set a realistic amount for each.
  3. Every day or two, log spending in the expense tracker — it takes two minutes.
  4. Set one savings goal with a real number instead of "save more".
  5. Debt: list every balance and decide which one to pay down first.
  6. Month end: compare planned vs. actual and adjust next month's budget.

Printing vs. filling it in digitally

Filling in the monthly budget digitally makes it easy to change numbers. Many people print the expense tracker and keep it in their wallet or by the front door. Because Money Flow is undated, you can start mid month — on payday, for example.

Common budgeting mistakes

Frequently asked questions

Does Money Flow work with cash envelopes?

Yes. Plan your cash categories in the monthly budget and log in the expense tracker which envelope each purchase came from.

Can couples use Money Flow together?

Yes. The simplest way is one shared monthly budget plus an expense tracker kept as a shared, digitally filled file.

Is Money Flow financial advice?

No. The debt payoff tracker makes your progress visible; if you're struggling with payments, a non-profit debt advice service can help.

Can I fill in Money Flow on a tablet, or do I have to print it?

Either works. The PDF is fillable, so you can type straight into it in Acrobat or another PDF reader. If you prefer pen and paper, print the pages blank in A4 or US Letter.

Why is Money Flow undated?

So you can start any day and a skipped week doesn't leave a stack of pre-dated blank pages behind. You write the dates in yourself and reprint individual pages as often as you need them.
